Book Review: “The Haunting of Hill House”

Eleanor’s inner dialogue right before she dies by suicide was terrifying, but also further asks the question “is it real or just in her head?” While I normally would say that suicide is a symptom of mental illness… this is a story about a haunted house, after all. Is it all in her head, or has Hill House truly taken control of her?

In the end, I think that it’s up to the interpretation of the reader (I apologize to all my English teachers and professors for this heresy), which truly adds another level to the horror: the reader is unable to trust anyone, even themselves.
